Artist of the Month - May 2025

A number of year 10 artists can be feeling rightly proud of themselves after producing stunning outcomes for a recent project on portraits. 

One such painting has been created by our NBS Artist of the Month - Nela Cwalinska who has produced a unique and reflective self-portrait. This has been heavily influenced by the Surrealism movement which relied dreams and the subconscious for inspiration. Nela has also been influenced by the artist Sarah J Arrett and has been inspired by this artist’s ambition to portray: ‘The human relationship with nature and the natural world with a sense of mystery and wonder.’

Although Nela based the face on herself the background is completely from her own imagination. Nela says that she always feels very calm when she is surrounded by nature and that butterflies are very significant to her as they remind her of her grandfather.
