Addo charity week at NBS was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the very best of our school spirit and our commitment to making a positive difference in the world. From the opening day, through to the final activities, our students participated with infectious energy and genuine generosity of heart.

The packed schedule of events was truly impressive, with non-uniform themes each day alongside break and lunchtime activities including Sponge the teacher, 'The Chase', Culture day, colour run, krispy kreme sales, tuck shops and much more! Stand out moments included our vibrant Culture Day, where the school erupted in colour and celebration as students and staff alike embraced the theme taking part in the ‘cultural catwalk’ and enjoying the cultural cuisine. Our NBS Teacher’s Got Talent also sparked joy, with students filling the hall to listen to our winners and staff band, ‘Sir Round Sound’

Of course, no Charity Week would be complete without our perennial favourite: “Gunge the Teacher”! The gleeful faces of students watching their teachers get thoroughly gunged was a highlight that generated both laughter and considerable funds for our chosen charity.

Mission Addo, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in Addo, South Africa, is dedicated to serving one of the most vulnerable communities through a comprehensive range of programmes. The organisation provides crucial support to those affected by HIV/AIDS and other hardships, whilst running educational facilities and soup kitchens to ensure children and adults have access to nutritious meals and quality education. Beyond this, Mission Ado delivers healthcare services and develops vital skills training in sewing and embroidery to empower disadvantaged individuals towards economic independence. At the heart of their work lies a deep commitment to community engagement and fostering genuine belonging, with the Sisters living alongside those they serve, embodying a mission of compassion and mercy that seeks to alleviate suffering and transform lives.

Our school is proud to support this vital work through our annual Charity Week, which brings together staff and students to raise funds for Marist Mercy Care. This commitment extends beyond fundraising: in 2026, we will be taking a group of Sixth Formers on an immersive visit to Addo to witness first-hand the remarkable impact of the charity’s work and to deepen our understanding of the communities we serve.

Our students have shown real understanding that their participation - whether through wearing a special outfit, attending an event, or simply spreading the word - contributes to something far greater than themselves. Through their actions, they are actively helping to build a better world.
